Micah Sierra Williams, popularly known as Katt Williams, was born on September 2, 1971, in Cincinnati, Ohio, United States. He was raised in Dayton, Ohio. At the age of 13, he emancipated himself from his parents and moved to Florida, where he supported himself by working as a street vendor.
Williams’ first experience performing stand-up comedy came in his teenage years, when he delivered a five-minute improvisational act to a small audience. Enthralled by the response, he began performing regularly at comedy venues across the country. He showcased his talents at respected clubs such as The Improv, The Comedy Store, The Ice House, and the Hollywood Park Casino. One of his early breakthroughs came with his appearance on BET’s Comic View.
In 2006, Williams garnered national attention with his first full-length comedy special, Katt Williams: Live: Let a Playa Play. That same year, he starred in the HBO special The Pimp Chronicles: Part 1, which featured the widely quoted routine, “This Shit Right Here, Nigga.” These performances significantly expanded his fan base and reputation as a bold and unfiltered comic voice.
In 2007, he headlined the film American Hustle, a stand-up comedy movie that became an instant success and solidified his place among top American comedians. This was followed by a second HBO special in 2008, titled It’s Pimpin’ Pimpin’. In 2012, he released his third HBO special, Kattpacalypse.
In 2013, Williams unexpectedly announced a brief retirement from stand-up comedy. However, he returned a year later with another HBO special, Katt Williams: Priceless: Afterlife, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Spike Lee. The show marked a successful comeback and displayed his mature comedic style.
Williams began his acting career in 2002 with a role in NYPD Blue. He later gained widespread recognition for his recurring appearances on Nick Cannon’s comedy show Wild 'n Out. He also played notable supporting roles in popular films such as Friday After Next, Norbit, and First Sunday. His sharp comedic presence added distinct charm to these productions, further increasing his appeal in both television and cinema.
In addition to comedy and acting, Katt Williams has made significant contributions to music, particularly in the realm of hip-hop. He has been featured as a rapper on tracks by artists like Baby Bash, The Game, and Suga Free. In 2006, Williams joined New York rapper Cam’ron’s group, The Diplomats. He released his debut live album, It’s Pimpin’ Pimpin’, in 2009. In 2013, he collaborated with Hell Rell to release the hip-hop single Lames in the Game.
Williams’ work as a stand-up comedian was acknowledged in 2007 when he received a nomination at the Teen Choice Awards, reflecting his strong impact on younger audiences.
In his personal life, Katt Williams is a father to eight children—seven of whom are adopted and one biological son, Micah, from a previous marriage. Despite facing various personal and legal challenges over the years, Williams remains recognized for his dedication to his craft. His success is reflected in his estimated net worth of approximately $10 million.
