Katy (Katharine) Tur is an American broadcast journalist and author currently working with NBC News. With a career spanning various prominent media outlets, she has also served as a correspondent for MSNBC and worked earlier in her career as a storm chaser for The Weather Channel.
Tur gained national recognition during the 2016 U.S. presidential campaign, where she was assigned to cover then-candidate Donald Trump for NBC News. Her reporting became widely known for its consistency, resilience, and journalistic integrity under intense political pressure. Tur has also contributed to NBC Nightly News, Today, and Meet the Press.
During the campaign, Tur was singled out during rallies by Donald Trump, leading to public scrutiny and targeted criticism from some of his supporters. Despite this, she continued to provide comprehensive reporting from the campaign trail. While she did not personally release the Access Hollywood tape featuring Trump's controversial remarks—a story broken by The Washington Post's David Fahrenthold—Tur covered the aftermath and reaction extensively as part of NBC's political team. Trump’s campaign manager at the time, Kellyanne Conway, publicly defended Tur on occasion, calling for professionalism and decency in political discourse.
In recognition of her coverage, Tur received the Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Journalism in 2017. That same year, she authored the best-selling memoir Unbelievable: My Front-Row Seat to the Craziest Campaign in American History, which chronicles her experiences covering the Trump campaign and offers insights into the challenges faced by journalists during that time.
Katy Tur married fellow journalist Tony Dokoupil in 2017. Dokoupil is known for his work as a co-anchor of CBS Mornings. The couple has children and balances family life alongside demanding broadcast careers.
