Laurel Coppock was born August 22, 1970. Daughter to Broadway dancer and actress in Susan Coppock she has two talented sisters. Selena is both a standup comedian and published author while her other sister is both an art appraiser and dealer. Their mother published a memoir, where she talks about growing up in an abusive household, her mother was a dancer on Broadway, had minimal maternal instincts and had a maximum ability of humiliating and belittling the younger daughter. The entire family is considered to be quite creative. Other than this information about her family, birthplace, where she grew up, has been relatively nonexistent.
Married to the talented producer, actor, and writer Bobby Mort, hailing from Chicago and completed his education in improv and sketch comedy in Chicago. The couple dated for multiple years before deciding to tie the knot. Even now, any free time is spent with each other, free time is family time.
Bobby Mort is the winner of the Primetime Emmy in 2013 it was shared with the rest of his cast for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series for his series, The Colbert Report and the Winner of the 2014 WGA Award for Comedy/Variety (Including Talk) – Series again for The Colbert Report, sharing the award once again with his cast. He is famous for the movies and shows The Colbert Report (2005), Circle of Pain (2010) and Loudermilk(2017) but has worked on many other TV shows and movies as well as acting in them. Bobby is also a comedian, trained as an improve and sketch comedian in Chicago, and a writer who is known to be the founder of the sketch comedy trio called Maximum Party Zone. The two have had a child since then but have refused to reveal any information about him; it is only known that she was pregnant in 2014 so we can only assume the child was born around this time. The couple does not attend red carpet events or speak openly about their relationship choosing to keep what happens between them to themselves.
As far as education goes, Laurel attended Circle in the Square theater school for the development of her acting skills and is a graduate of Colby College in Maine. Later she studied and performed in Chicago’s Second City and Improv Olympic to polish her skills. Laurel performed improv and sketch comedy for five years in Chicago with a long list including groups such as People of Earth and The Armando Show she was also a cast member of the famous comedy Boom Chicago in Amsterdam from 2005 - 2006
After her graduation with her pursuance of entertainment, Laurel was given the opportunity to try her talent at her first movie. In 2008, Laurel became part of the movie Food Chain by Erik Moe. It was around this time that she played small roles in other movies as well, such as Crazy, Stupid, Love along with Ryan Gosling and Steve Carell. From here on out it was more small jobs in the movie biz. Aside from movies, Laurel appeared in several different television series such as Curb Your Enthusiasm, Arrested Development, Hot in Clevland and Modern Family.

Her fame truly started as Jan in the Toyota advertisements. She claimed that it was at this time she was ready to quit auditioning for commercials right before auditioning for Toyota. It’s a good thing she didn’t quit because it earned her the name ‘Toyota Jan.’ Jan is a receptionist at Toyota Dealership receptionist more than willing to enthusiastically help and customer with any problem in finding the perfect car. From there she became the beloved persona in the commercial mainstay. She was originally told by Toyota that the commercial was only meant to be something smaller a regional campaign at most but with the success of the add, made her fame grow into a full-blown campaign.

When Laurel was pregnant, Toyota decided to release a part two to their ever popular commercial portraying her persona Jan as an expectant mother eating cake. The sight of the baby bump made viewers demand an answer on if she was pregnant, what the child’s name was, the gender they wanted to know anything, and everything but Laurel has remained tight-lipped about the whole thing.
Laurel had been on the screen for over a decade now and has been on the Arrested Development, Broke Girls and in The Office 2. She has been on the Crazy Stupid Love, and it is the film that she is more credited for and it was a great movie in which Ryan Gosling and Steve Carell were staring.
Other than being the founder of the highly acclaimed improve group Rag Dolls, Laurel is the leading company member of The Groundlings based in Los Angeles. The Groundlings is well known non-benefit spontaneous sketch and improv comedy group around the country, and it has other alumni like Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wigg, and Ferrell. For her, it is not something small to count herself among these people. The Groundlings also doubles as a school for those wishing to pursue the art of acting and comedy. As a school itself, The Groundlings has offered leading improv classes for over 40 years.
Initially, a side project, Laurel is the co-creator of Break Womb, which is presented by three mothers, Megan Grano, Molly Erdman and Laurel Coppock. Breakwomb is a comedy cast on Youtube where the three Mother’s discuss difficult parenting topics in a comical way. With over 2 million viewers they have now decided to take their parental comedy and audience-inspired improv on the road.
