Marisa Coughlan is an American actress and writer, best known for her role as Officer Ursula Hanson in the cult comedy film Super Troopers.
Marisa Christine Coughlan was born on March 17, 1974, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She attended Breck School, a private college-preparatory institution located in Golden Valley, a suburb of Minneapolis. After relocating to Los Angeles with her father, Daniel Merritt Coughlan, she enrolled at the University of Southern California. In 1995, she participated in a study abroad program in Paris and later graduated in 1996 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in French.
Coughlan's breakout film role came when she starred in Teaching Mrs. Tingle (1999), a dark comedy written and directed by Kevin Williamson. She appeared alongside Katie Holmes and Helen Mirren in the film. Interestingly, Coughlan landed the part after auditioning unsuccessfully for Williamson's television series Dawson’s Creek. Her performance in Teaching Mrs. Tingle helped establish her as a rising talent in Hollywood.
Following her film debut, Coughlan secured a recurring television role in the drama series Wasteland (1999), also created by Kevin Williamson. She continued building her television presence with appearances in multiple series, most notably her role as Melissa Hughes on the legal drama Boston Legal, where she portrayed a paralegal with a keen sense of justice.
In 2007, she starred as Jenny McIntyre in the Lifetime original series Side Order of Life. Although the show cultivated a dedicated fan base, it was not renewed for a second season.
In addition to acting, Marisa Coughlan has expanded her career to include writing and producing. She has developed scripts for both film and television, showcasing her versatility as a creative professional in the entertainment industry. Her transition into writing underscores her wide-ranging talents and continued relevance in Hollywood beyond her on-screen performances.
