Born on August 4, 1981, Meghan Markle is an American actress and former model. Her father, Thomas Markle Sr., is of Irish and Dutch descent, while her mother, Doria Ragland, is African American. Meghan’s exposure to the entertainment industry began early in life, largely influenced by her father’s work as a television lighting director. As a child, she spent considerable time on the set of the television sitcom Married... with Children.
After completing her high school education, Meghan enrolled at Northwestern University. Known for her academic diligence, she earned a double major in Theater and International Relations. She also holds the distinction of being the first person in her family to graduate from college.
Following her graduation, Meghan worked at the U.S. Embassy in Buenos Aires, Argentina, as part of an internship, reflecting her initial interest in international affairs. She also briefly worked as a freelance calligrapher. Her entrée into acting came through a chance opportunity when a friend introduced her to a casting director by sharing her headshot at a party. This led to her first acting role on the long-running television soap opera General Hospital.
Meghan went on to appear in several feature films, including Remember Me and Get Him to the Greek in 2010, and Horrible Bosses in 2011.
In addition to film, Meghan took supporting roles in various television series such as Century City, Love, Inc., The War at Home, 90210, Knight Rider, The Apostles, CSI: NY, and The League. She also briefly appeared as a model holding briefcase number 24 on the game show Deal or No Deal, a role she later described as creatively unfulfilling.
Her more substantial television role came in 2009 when she joined the cast of the sci-fi drama Fringe as Junior FBI Agent Amy Jessup. The pivotal moment in her career, however, arrived in July 2011 when she was cast as Rachel Zane in the legal drama series Suits. The show, set in a fictional New York City law firm, follows the life of Mike Ross (played by Patrick J. Adams), a brilliant college dropout who practices law without a degree. Meghan’s character, Rachel Zane, plays a driven paralegal who later becomes an attorney and a key figure in the show's central storyline.
Meghan married film producer Trevor Engelson on September 10, 2011. However, the couple separated and finalized their divorce in May 2013. Meghan is also known for her passion for cooking and often describes herself as a foodie. Although she has not authored an autobiography, she has expressed interest in writing one in the future.
She gained significant popularity in the United States through her role in Suits and maintained a strong presence on social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook. Around the time of her work on the show, she earned approximately $44,000 per episode, and her estimated net worth was about $7 million. Meghan continued to perform successfully in Suits, with many expecting her to achieve even greater fame due to her talent and youthful drive.
