Michelle Buteau was born on July 24, 1977, in New Jersey to her Haitian father and Jamaican mother who immigrated from the Carribean. An interesting fact about Buteau's comedy career is that she began performing stand-up comedy just days after the devastating September 11, 2001 terror attacks on the World Trade Centers. Buteau has earned a name for herself as a comedian but has also begun dabbling in acting.
She was named one of the ten comedians to watch by Esquire Magazine in 2017 and in 2018, she started hosting the "Late Night Whenever!" podcast. The podcast was dubbed "one of the best podcasts of 2018 so far" by Time Magazine. Buteau also participated in a "The Comedy Lineup" on Netflix which hosts up and coming comedians and gives them 15 minutes to perform their stand-up comedy routines. Buteau's acting career is set to take off in 2019 which will be a busy year for the comedian.
She is set to appear in three films in 2019, they are, "Isn't It Romantic", "Sell By", and "Always Be My Maybe". Buteau will also appear in two television series in 2019 titled "First Wives Club" and "Tales of the City".
