Tony Perry, born in the mid-1980s, spent much of his early life in Tijuana, Mexico. He gained prominence in 2007 after joining the American post-hardcore band Pierce the Veil as their lead guitarist.
Born on February 25, 1986, as Cesar Antonio Perry Soto, Tony Perry is of Mexican descent. Raised in Tijuana before relocating to the United States, Perry credits his grandfather with teaching him how to play the guitar, a skill that would later define his career. His upbringing reflects elements of simplicity; he is a dedicated vegetarian and a supporter of animal rights.
Perry stands 5 feet 10 inches tall and was born under the zodiac sign Pisces. Among his numerous tattoos, one is especially meaningful—a tribute to his father, inked on his arm following his father's passing. Outside of music, Perry enjoys drawing and has a particular fondness for movies, turtles, and tattoo culture. Fittingly, his first tattoo was of a turtle.
Tony Perry has spoken sparingly about his personal life and relationships. He has acknowledged experiencing struggles with depression over the years. In 2012, he was in a brief relationship with Stephanie Dearing, which ended amicably due to personal differences. Perry prefers to keep such matters private, stating that he believes discussing them publicly serves little purpose beyond stirring unnecessary drama.
His move to the United States marked a turning point, as he committed to pursuing music professionally. Shortly thereafter, he joined Pierce the Veil, setting the stage for his ascent in the rock music scene.
Tony Perry's professional music career took off in 2007 when he joined Pierce the Veil. Founded by brothers Vic and Mike Fuentes, the band also includes Jaime Preciado. Perry quickly became an integral part of the group, serving as their lead guitarist. Soon after his arrival, the band began work on their sophomore album, Selfish Machines, which was released on June 22, 2010.
Perry and his band have performed across the globe, touring throughout North America, South America, Australia, Asia, and Europe. He has graced some of the world’s major music festivals, including Rock am Ring and Rock im Park, Reading and Leeds, Soundwave Festival, Slam Dunk Festival, and Warped Tour. Pierce the Veil has also shared the stage with renowned acts such as Bring Me The Horizon, All Time Low, Black Veil Brides, A Day to Remember, Tonight Alive, and Sleeping with Sirens.
Tony Perry was honored with the ‘Best Guitarist’ award at the 2015 Alternative Press Music Awards (APMAs). His band has also garnered several accolades, including the PETA2 Libby Award in 2010, a Kerrang! Award in 2013, and another APMA in 2014. These recognitions underscore both his individual talent and the band’s influence in the rock and post-hardcore music scenes.
In June 2015, Perry faced a major personal and professional setback when he sustained serious injuries in a mountain biking accident. The incident resulted in three broken ribs, a torn shoulder, a collapsed lung, and a broken sternum. Consequently, he was forced to miss the start of that year’s Warped Tour.
Despite this challenging period, Perry made a full recovery and returned to performing. While he has chosen not to publicly disclose his net worth, it has been estimated at over $2 million, reflecting both his success with Pierce the Veil and his standing in the music industry.
