Early Life and Family Background

Born into a middle-class family, Mike Fuentes was influenced early on by his father, who worked professionally as a painter but also had a passion for jazz music. Music played a significant role in the Fuentes household, laying the foundation for both Mike and his older brother Vic Fuentes to pursue careers as musicians. Standing at approximately 6 feet 1 inch tall, Mike attended Mission Bay High School in San Diego, graduating in 2003.

Fueled by a shared love for music, Mike and Vic formed their first band called “Early Times” during their teenage years. Mike gravitated toward drumming, while Vic took on guitar and vocals. Due to copyright issues, they later renamed the group “Before Today.” This initial effort allowed the brothers to grow musically and perform locally before gaining a broader following.

Pierce the Veil

In 2006, building on the momentum from “Before Today,” Mike and Vic founded the post-hardcore band Pierce the Veil. As the drummer, Mike contributed to developing the band’s signature sound, blending emotional lyrics with powerful instrumentals. Guitarist Tony Perry and bassist Jaime Preciado soon joined the lineup, solidifying the core of the group.

Pierce the Veil released their debut album, A Flair for the Dramatic, in 2007 through Equal Vision Records. The band followed up with Selfish Machines in 2010 and achieved greater mainstream recognition with their 2012 release Collide with the Sky under Fearless Records. Their most recent studio album, Misadventures, was released in 2016 and received critical acclaim within the alternative rock community.
