Mike Fuentes, born Michael Christopher Fuentes on December 14, 1984, in San Diego, California, is a Mexican-American musician best known as the drummer and co-founder of the post-hardcore band Pierce the Veil. Also known by his stage name “Mikey Whiskey Hands,” Fuentes began his music career in 1998 and has remained an influential figure in the rock and alternative music scene ever since.
Born into a middle-class family, Mike Fuentes was influenced early on by his father, who worked professionally as a painter but also had a passion for jazz music. Music played a significant role in the Fuentes household, laying the foundation for both Mike and his older brother Vic Fuentes to pursue careers as musicians. Standing at approximately 6 feet 1 inch tall, Mike attended Mission Bay High School in San Diego, graduating in 2003.
Fueled by a shared love for music, Mike and Vic formed their first band called “Early Times” during their teenage years. Mike gravitated toward drumming, while Vic took on guitar and vocals. Due to copyright issues, they later renamed the group “Before Today.” This initial effort allowed the brothers to grow musically and perform locally before gaining a broader following.
In 2006, building on the momentum from “Before Today,” Mike and Vic founded the post-hardcore band Pierce the Veil. As the drummer, Mike contributed to developing the band’s signature sound, blending emotional lyrics with powerful instrumentals. Guitarist Tony Perry and bassist Jaime Preciado soon joined the lineup, solidifying the core of the group.
Pierce the Veil released their debut album, A Flair for the Dramatic, in 2007 through Equal Vision Records. The band followed up with Selfish Machines in 2010 and achieved greater mainstream recognition with their 2012 release Collide with the Sky under Fearless Records. Their most recent studio album, Misadventures, was released in 2016 and received critical acclaim within the alternative rock community.
In addition to his work with Pierce the Veil, Mike Fuentes explored other musical ventures. He collaborated with the supergroup Isles & Glaciers, participating in the 2010 release of their EP The Hearts of Lonely People. Beyond rock, he also created solo hip-hop tracks under the pseudonym “Mikey Whiskey Hands.” His foray into hip-hop expanded his artistic repertoire and showcased his diverse musical abilities.
Renowned for his heavily tattooed appearance and energetic stage presence, Mike Fuentes helped shape the identity of Pierce the Veil. The band earned various awards over the years, including the PETA2 Liberation Award and recognition from the iHeartRadio Music Awards, contributing to their standing in the alternative rock genre. As of the most recent estimates, Fuentes has a net worth of approximately $1 million.
Mike Fuentes has been in several public relationships over the years. He was previously linked to individuals such as Melissa Marr, Danky Frenchi, and Amor Hilton. Since 2013, he has been in a long-term relationship with model Alysha Nett. Despite multiple relationships, Fuentes has never been married and has no public record of divorce.
