Edited Biography:
Vincent Piazza, an American film, television, and stage actor, was born on May 25, 1976, in Middle Village, New York. His father, originally from Italy, immigrated to the United States in 1960, while his mother is of German descent. Piazza was raised in a modest household, often citing his father's work ethic as a primary inspiration in his life and career.
Piazza attended Xavier High School in Chelsea, Manhattan, where he earned academic honors and played both hockey and football. He received an academic scholarship, including recognition from the National Honor Society. He later enrolled at Villanova University, majoring in Media Management and playing ice hockey for the school's ACHA Division I team. A recurring shoulder injury, however, forced him to give up the sport and eventually led him to pursue acting as a profession.
Following his athletic career, Piazza turned to the performing arts. He trained at Theatre Row and the Lion Theatre, refining his skills in stage acting. His early work included Off-Broadway productions such as Much Ado About Nothing, Baby Steps, and A Match Made in Manhattan, where he began to build a name for himself in the theatrical community.
Piazza made his film debut in 2006 with Stephanie Daley. He began earning recognition with roles in television series like Law & Order: Criminal Intent and Rescue Me. He continued to build his screen presence with appearances in The Sopranos and gained widespread acclaim for his role as Lucky Luciano in HBO’s historical drama Boardwalk Empire. The series received multiple Screen Actors Guild Awards and nominations for outstanding ensemble performance.
In film, Piazza starred in Rocket Science (2007), which received positive critical reception. He later appeared in a variety of other films, including Apology, Tie a Yellow Ribbon, The Assassination of a High School President, The Wannabe, The Intervention, and The Dawn. Notably, he portrayed Tommy DeVito in Clint Eastwood's film adaptation of the musical Jersey Boys, offering a performance praised by critics and audiences alike.
Piazza describes himself as an outgoing and motivated individual. He has attributed much of his ambition to his family's heritage and international travel experiences, particularly visits to relatives in Germany during his upbringing.
From 2011 to 2012, Piazza was in a public relationship with pop singer Ashlee Simpson. Although their relationship attracted media attention, it ended after approximately one year. Piazza currently resides in New York City and maintains a relatively private personal life.
