Education and Personal Life
Erica Johnson graduated from Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University), where she studied journalism. She began her professional career in radio journalism in 1987. The daughter of Olive and Ross Johnson, Erica grew up in a household with four siblings. She is married and has one child.
Early Career in Radio Journalism
Johnson launched her journalism career working at a number of Canadian radio stations, including CFRB in Toronto and CKO in Vancouver. In 1990, she joined CBL as a radio news reporter. Her initial experiences in radio laid the foundation for a transition into television journalism just a few years later.
Transition to Television and CBC Career
In 1993, Erica moved from radio to television, becoming a part of CBC Television. One of her first major television responsibilities was reporting and contributing to The Health Show, a program focused on health-related issues. She soon relocated back to Vancouver, where she took on roles as a news reporter and host for CBUT.
