Fidel Castro was born as Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz on the 13th of August, 1926 into a high class family of farmers. He was born as the son of a sugarcane farmer Ángel Castro y Argiz, who had migrated to Cuba from Northern Spain and settled down in Birán, Holguin Province, Cuba. His mother Lina Ruz González was his father’s second wife who previously worked as his servant. Born as one of the 7th children to those two, Fidel was sent away from home at an early age, to study; and he lived with his teacher in Santiago de Cuba. After having behavioral problems, he was sent to a boarding school and in 1945, graduated from the El Colegio de Belén located in Havana. Not a very intelligent scholar, he spent much time indulged into sports with his friends, and took interest in subjects like history and politics.

After graduating from high school, he was admitted to the University of Havana in 1945, where he began to study law. With his wide knowledge in politics, he formed out a student’s activist group and began to raise voice against the American power that ruled his country. With his bold and courageous attitude, as well as a fearless and to-the-point manner of speaking, he became the president of Federation of University Students, and started to openly criticize about the corruption and chaos under President Ramón Grau's government. Then in 1947 he joined the Party of the Cuban People from where the turning point of his revolutionary career began.

Spending more than 11 years in jungle, he and his team mastered the art of Guerilla Warfare; which included a tough routine of practicing firing, rock climbing, defense and attack and team work. They also learned many ways to capture vehicles ambush them and make bombs out of local materials. Devoting a major part of his working life for his country, he became the 1st secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba in 1961.
