Scott was born on the 24th of April, 1963 in Needham, Massachusetts, united States of America into a middle class family. His father Brian Rosenberg was a banker as well as a real estate agent whereas his mother Celia Adams Rosenberg had a line of horticulture. Born as the eldest of two children, he and his younger brother were raised in much ease and with all the care and love from their parents. As a child, he spent his time mostly with his grandmother, whose death was his first tragedy in life. As a kid, he attended the local Holy Grail Higher Secondary school, and was an average student in his class. With his interest shifting from literature to acting and performing, he was a good baseball player who played much for his school.

Following graduation from high school, he decided to pursue his interest in literature and writing, and thus got enrolled at the Boston University, in 1981. There, he completed his Bachelor’s in fine arts with a major in English, which helped him ease his way into the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). There, he completed his master’s level in fine arts, with an extra course in acting as well after getting involved with the stage plays.

He began his career as an assistant writer; with scripts of movies like Con Air and Gone in 60 Seconds. He also got chances to appear in movies like Beautiful Girls (1996), Things to Do in Denver When You're Dead (1995) and Disturbing Behavior (1998). He also began to work as a producer with the TV show Going to California in 2001. His another production Domestic Disturbance in the same year was followed by a case after he and his friend were arrested for violating public code in a bar in North Carolina.

He has proved to be a very versatile actor and with his ability to successfully play a wide range of roles, is very good at what he does. As a result, there is a lot of fan following that he has received over the course of time, not to mention the stardom and fame that comes along.
