George Foreman

George Foreman is known as a former American expert boxer who contended from 1969 to 1977, and from 1987 to 1997. He was given the nickname "Big George", he is a two-time world heavyweight champion and an Olympic gold medalist. Outside of the boxing game, he is an ordained minister, author, and entrepreneur.

Background

George Edward Foreman was born on January 10, 1949 in Marshall, Texas. He experienced childhood in Houston's unpleasant Fifth Ward region. As a self-proclaimed hooligan, he dropped out of school in the ninth grade, and kept running with street gangs until he joined the Job Corps in 1965.

Career

The Job Corps provided Foreman with a connection with boxing coach and mentor, Doc Broaddus, who urged him to apply his fighting instincts in the ring. Foreman adjusted rapidly enough that he was named to the U.S. Olympic boxing team for the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City.

George Foreman was on top of the world when he won Olympic gold in 1968, and controlled boxing's heavyweight division to end up best on the planet in 1973. He came back to the ring following a 10-year break and incredibly wound up as best on the planet a second time at the old lion age of 45. He then proceeded to leaving his successful boxing career to become a marketer and entrepreneur.
