Professional Football Career with Manchester United and Barcelona

Though his playing time in England was limited, the experience helped him mature as a defender. In 2006, he was loaned to Real Zaragoza, where he gained more first-team experience in La Liga.

In 2008, Piqué returned to Barcelona, where he would go on to enjoy the most successful period of his career. He scored his first goal for the club during a UEFA Champions League group stage match in 2008. One of his standout performances came in 2009, when he contributed a key goal against Espanyol and played a pivotal defensive role in a 6-2 win over Real Madrid during El Clásico. That same year, his club won the UEFA Champions League final against Manchester United and claimed victory in the FIFA Club World Cup by defeating Estudiantes.

Barcelona continued its dominance in 2011, once again defeating Manchester United in the Champions League final. Piqué remained a defensive mainstay for the club for several more seasons, covering critical roles in its domestic and international successes. He had a contract with FC Barcelona extending through 2019, and he continued to be a central figure in the team’s lineup during that period.
