Early Life and Education

Gregory Walter Olsen, known as Greg Olsen, was born on March 11, 1985, in New Jersey, USA. He grew up in a supportive family of American nationality and spent most of his childhood in Wayne, New Jersey. He attended Wayne Hills High School, where his athletic talents quickly caught the attention of coaches. Excelling in multiple sports, Olsen was particularly recognized for his football capabilities and earned a spot on the school's football team.

High School Athletic Achievements

Although initially interested in basketball, Olsen eventually distinguished himself in football under the guidance of his father and coach, Chris Olsen. By his senior year, he had become one of the top high school prospects in the nation. In 2001, he was a finalist for the Gatorade Player of the Year award. During his high school football career, Olsen recorded 73 receptions for 1,474 yards and 27 touchdowns—a remarkable achievement that underscored his athletic promise.

Olsen also excelled in track and field. He ran the 100-meter dash in 11.40 seconds, a competitive time at the high school level. Additionally, he achieved a personal best of 59.83 meters in the javelin throw and 46.63 meters in the discus throw, showcasing his versatility as an all-around athlete.

College Career and Transfer to Miami

Following high school, Olsen enrolled at the University of Notre Dame. However, he transferred to the University of Miami later the same year, seeking a better fit both academically and athletically. During his first season with the Miami Hurricanes, he was sidelined by a shoulder injury. He rebounded strongly in subsequent seasons, particularly in 2005, when he began to display the skill set that would eventually propel him to the NFL.

Olsen also briefly gained public attention for being affiliated with a campus rap group known as G-Reg. The group received criticism for its sexually explicit lyrics, a topic that has since faded from public focus as Olsen's professional accomplishments have taken precedence.
