Michael Bennett was born on November 13, 1985, in Independence, Louisiana, USA, and raised in Texas. He is of African American descent and displayed a strong interest in sports from a young age. Growing up, he excelled in football and baseball during his school years in Texas. He attended Alief Taylor High School, where his athletic talents became evident early on.

High School Athletic Achievements

During his time at Alief Taylor High School, Bennett earned recognition as the district’s best defensive lineman and was named to the All-District team during his junior year. In addition to football, he was a standout in track and field. Notably, he recorded a discus throw of 45.72 meters—a school record at the time. He also ran the 40-yard dash in 4.79 seconds and achieved a vertical jump of 36.5 inches, impressive athletic metrics that underscored his physical capabilities.

College Career at Texas A&M

Following high school, Bennett enrolled at Texas A&M University, where he joined the Texas A&M Aggies football team. As a freshman in 2005, he appeared in 11 games, recording 27 tackles and 3.5 quarterback sacks. Although he did not start any games in the 2006 season, he remained an active contributor, again totaling 27 tackles and adding 2 sacks.

Bennett’s role expanded in his junior year, where he made 43 tackles, establishing himself as a key member of the defense. In 2008, he tallied 42 tackles including 12.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks over 11 games, showcasing his ability to disrupt opposing offenses. Despite his consistent performance, Bennett went undrafted in the 2009 NFL Draft.
