Cox was an accomplished volleyball player. In 1987, she joined the United States National Volleyball Team and played for eight years. During her collegiate years, she attended the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California, where she earned a degree in communications in 1992.
Cox received a volleyball scholarship to the University of the Pacific in 1988. As captain of the women’s volleyball team, she led the team to national prominence. The team consistently ranked high in Division I from 1988 to 1991. Notably, in 1990, she led her team to the Final Four in the NCAA Championship, where they finished in fourth place.
