Born to Judy Kay and Stephen Michael Swank, on July 30, 1974 in Lincoln, Nebraska; Hilary is junior to her brother by eight years. Her father worked at the Oregon Air National Guard as a Chief Master Sergeant and her mother was a dancer by profession. Swank’s family shifted to Bellingham, Washington when she was six years old and hence she did her early schooling here. Swank showed keen interest in acting and went on to do small stage and theatre programs at her school and community. In the year 1989 when her parents separated, she moved to Los Angeles with her mother. Her mother was an avid supporter of her dreams and took every possible step to inch her closer to it; moving to Los Angeles being one of those. Hilary couldn’t complete even her high school due to lack of interest.
Swank’s film debut was a small role in the movie ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ in the year 1992. In the year 1994, she got her first lead role with the film ‘The Next Karate Kid’, where she had the edge with her gymnastics background. Her other loved roles during her initial 10 years in the industry were; of a single mother in the show Beverly Hills, 90210 (1997), a step daughter in the movie Cries Unheard: The Donna Yaklich Story etc.
Hilary next went on to give the audition for the movie ‘Boys Don’t Cry,’ which later turned out to be a masterpiece and recognition of Swank’s talent to the fullest. With the Clint Eastwood’s movie ‘Million Dollar Baby’ in the year 2004, Hilary Swank rose to the heights of acting and with the second Oscar for the movie she raised herself to match the standards of Luise Rainer and Vivien Leigh. However, the marriage didn’t last more than a decade and they divorced on November 1, 2007. Swank’s second relationship was with her agent John Campisi which again ended in 2012.
