Early Life and Background

Isla Lang Fisher was born on February 3, 1976, in Muscat, Oman, to Scottish parents Elspeth Reid and Brian Fisher. Her father worked as a banker for the United Nations. During her early childhood, the family lived in Bathgate, Scotland, before relocating to Perth, Western Australia, in the mid-1980s.

Early Career in Television

Fisher began acting at a young age, appearing in Australian television commercials by the time she was nine. In 1993, she secured small roles in local TV productions, including the short-lived series "Bay City." That same year, she earned a more significant role in the soap drama "Paradise Beach."

Her breakout within Australian television came shortly thereafter when she joined the cast of the long-running soap opera "Home and Away." During her time on the series, Fisher showcased her versatility not only as an actress but also as a writer, co-authoring two teen novels.

Film Career and Breakthrough Roles

Fisher achieved international recognition through her role as the lively and eccentric Gloria in the hit film "Wedding Crashers" (2005). The film's success marked a turning point in her career, establishing her as a rising comedic talent in Hollywood.

Following this breakout performance, she starred in several other notable films, including "The Lookout" (2007), a crime thriller opposite Joseph Gordon-Levitt; the comedy "Hot Rod" (2007); and the romantic comedy "Definitely, Maybe" (2008). In 2009, she took the lead role in the adaptation of the bestselling novel "Confessions of a Shopaholic," playing the shopping-obsessed protagonist Rebecca Bloomwood.
