He stopped to act for sometime so that he can go to study in Columbia University. He dropped the studies  in order to enter into acting again. He had starred in many movies such as Mysterious Skin, Brick, The Dark Knight Rises, Premiums Rush and G.I Joe: the Rise of Cobra.

He is the founder of an online production company called hitRECord and it shows his TV series. In 2013, he screen wrote and directed his debut album together with Don Jon. This is a comedy film and he was also the star in it. He had also edited and directed other two short films which were released in 2010.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt was born in California, Los Angeles and he was raised in the Sherman Oaks neighborhood. Even if he is a Jewish, his family is not strictly religious.  His parents are among the founders of the Progressive Jewish Alliance.  His father was once a news director of Pacifica Radio station. His mother Jane Gordon was running for the United States Congress for California in 1970 and she met with her future husband Dennis Levitt when she was a program guide editor of KPFK-FM. Maternal grandfather of Michael Gordon was a film director in Hollywood from 1940s to 1970s.  He directed Pillow Talk and Doris Day/Rock Hudson.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt started to sing when she was only four and he played a Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz. After this, many agents approached him and he started to appear in commercials and Television such as in Kenney shoes, Pop-Tarts , Cocoa Puffs and Sunny Jim peanut butter. When he was only six, he starred in many movies that were made to be on the Television. He was Daniel Collins and David Collins in Dark Shadows television series.

Even if Joseph Gordon-Levitt is a boyfriend to an undisclosed girl, however, he said that he is not planning to be a husband yet. He said this in the Howard Stern Show that his girlfriend is not in show business but he is not yet sure about the marriage. His love life is always private but he denied the rumors that he may be a gay. 

Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s net worth is 35 million and he started to earn acting salary when he was still young.  He started to play in small roles on the TV shows like the Murder She wrote and Family ties. He had a recurring role in Dark Shadows Series. He played the role of A River Runs Through it and Holy Matrimony. He got a break through when he played in 3rd Rock from The Sun an NBC sitcom.  He starred together with Leonardo Dicaprio in Inception.
