Jack Matthew Lauer is the son of former NBC news anchor Matt Lauer and was born on June 26, 2001, in the Hamptons, in Florida, United States. Lauer grew up with his sister Romy Lauer and his brother Thijs Lauer. When a 24-hour investigation into alleged sexual misconduct by his father resulted in him being fired from his job at NBC in 2017, Matt Lauer drove to his son's school to tell him what happened personally so he didn't have to hear it through the media. The woman who alleged the sexual misconduct never came forward publicly. Lauer's father married his first wife Nancy Alspaugh in 1982 but they divorced seven years later in 1989. His father married his second wife Annette Roque on October 3, 1998, and the couple went on to have Lauer and his two siblings. His mother is a prominent Dutch model who met his father on a blind date. Lauer's parents have had a rocky relationship and in 2006, his mother filed for divorce citing cruel and inhumane behavior toward her.

Three weeks later, his mother withdrew the divorce filing and their marriage resumed. Four years after that, his mother would once again file for divorce, this time his father moved out of their Hampton Home. Both Lauer's mother and father were seen without their wedding bands but as of yet, they have not divorced. Lauer is often spotted with his father attending sports games and photos of the pair out in public are often seen on social media.
