Born on 22nd February 1974 at Tidworth in the United Kingdom in an army hospital, James Hillier Blount is well known as James Blunt, his stage name. He was the first child born to Jane A.F. and Charles Blount. He has two siblings, Emily and Daisy Blount. James’s father was a colonel in the Air Corps of the British Army and also a helicopter pilot and hence got posted to various cities. James spent his childhood days in England, Germany and Cyprus wherever his father was posted. Military service dates back to the 10th century for the Blount family. James’ father a pilot himself inculcated this love of flying to James and when he was just 16 he earned his first pilot’s license.
Blunt started his schooling at Elstree School in Berkshire and then continued at the Harrow School in North-West London at Elmfield House with the assistance of the army bursary. From Harrow he secured an army-sponsored seat at University of Bristol and got to study Aerospace manufacturing engineering. Subsequently he went on to study Sociology. In 1996, James graduated with a B.Sc. degree in Sociology. After his graduation, Blunt served the British Army for six years from 2002.
Though as a child Blunt had a passion for music, he did not make any serious attempt to make it his career. However, after his short stint in the military came to an end, he recorded his first album ‘Back to Bedlan’ in 2003 and it was released soon after. He went on to release many more songs like ‘High;’ ‘You’re Beautiful;’ etc. ‘You’re beautiful’ topped the music charts in the U.S. and made Blunt the number one music artist in the States within a decade. It also won two MTV Video Music Awards.
Besides being a singer, James Blunt also appeared on T.V.: on the famous ‘Oprah Winfrey Show’ and also in ‘Saturday Night Live.’ He was nominated for the 49th Grammy Awards for five Grammy Awards. He loves to do charity and he has made many music albums for special charity causes and has held many concerts like Help for Heroes, purely for the purpose of donating the proceeds to charity.
He has dated a long line of beautiful women in the past including Petra Nemcova the Czech supermodel. However, he did not take serious decisions with regard to marriage. A handsome man cannot stay single for long! He was in love with Sofia Wellesley his long-term girlfriend. Sofia is the Duke of Wellington’s grand daughter. The pair were engaged during the Christmas holidays and all their fans expected to witness an early marriage because the couple seems to be very deeply in love with each other. Sofia is an Edinburgh University law graduate.
