James Frecheville was born in Melbourne, Australia, in 1991. He grew up in the suburb of Malvern East and attended Lloyd Street Primary School during his early years. He later enrolled at McKinnon Secondary College, where he developed a passion for drama. It was during this time that Frecheville realized he wanted to pursue acting as a career. He became involved in various local acting groups for young performers, which helped solidify his interest in the craft.

Frecheville's first experience on a professional set came with a small role as an extra on the Australian television series City Homicide. Although it was a minor appearance, it offered him valuable exposure to the world of professional acting. Breakthrough with Animal Kingdom

Frecheville’s breakthrough role came in 2008 when he auditioned for the Australian crime drama film Animal Kingdom. Competing against more than 500 young actors for the role of Joshua "J" Cody, Frecheville, at just 17 years old, was ultimately selected. Filming began in 2009 and required him to balance academic responsibilities with the demands of acting. His performance was widely acclaimed, and he was noted as a standout choice to play the lead character.
