A future well-known actor was born on September 23, 1959 to the Jewish parents Ruth and Alex Greenspan in Newark, New Jersey. His real name is Jason Scott Greenspan – he created his pseudonym in high school, because he found his name way too long to pronounce. Why would he worry that much about the pronunciation? He was a taking active part in high school plays, and by the age of fifteen decided to adopt a beautiful stage name.
He was granted a full scholarship to the School of Fine Arts at Boston University and studied there for 2 years, up until he was offered to play in film “The Burning” (1981) and in “Senior Trip” TV-movie. However, his first break through occurred in a Broadway revival of “Fiddler of the Roof” and in “Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Forum”. In 1989 Jason was awarded a Tony for Best Performance as a “Leading Actor in a Musical” for “Jerome Robbins” Broadway play. While in his theatrical carrier everything was going great, he also appeared in some movies and TV series such as “Peter Weir’s Mosquito Coast”(1986), “Jacob’s Ladder”(1990), in Julia Roberts star vehicle “Pretty Woman”(1900) and in NBC little series “Favorite Son”(1988). Soon, he starred in “Seinfeld” in a role of George Costanza, a neurotic best friend of misfortunate stand-up comedian Seinfeld.
