Jeff Goldblum

Jeffrey Lynn Goldblum was born on October 22, 1952 in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. Jeff was one of four children in the family of Doctor Harold and a radio broadcaster Shirley Goldblum. His father Harold was of Russian Jewish descent and his mother Shirley was of Austrian Jewish descent. In his interviews Jeff mentioned before his passion towards acting since childhood. He also said that if he wasn’t an actor, he would become a famous musician – he was passionate about piano as well.

At the age of 17 he moved to New York City and took drama classes in Carnegie Mellon University. He was mostly performing at the stage, before he made his way to the big screens. Eventually, he was taking episodic roles in “Death Wish” (1974), “California Split” (1974), “Nashville” (1975) and “ Annie’s Hall”(1977). A huge breakthrough happened in 1981 after the film “Threshold”. Goldblum was nominated “Genie Award for the Best Performance by a Foreign Actor”. The breakthrough was huge not only in the film industry, but in the TV screens too. Jeff Goldblum was playing in “The Legend of a Sleepy Hollow” (1980) and in the detective “Tenspeed and Brown Shoe” (1980). In the 1983 drama in “The Big Chill” he co-starred with his first wife, Patricia Gaul. They played in one more film together – “Silverado” (1985). However, the couple divorced after 6 years of marriage in 1986. In 1985 he was starring in the film “Transylvania 6-5000” with Geena Davis. Soon, actors fell in love and got married in 1987. It’s Interesting to know, that couple was playing in 2 more films together: “The Fly” (1986) and “Earth Girls are Easy” (1988). Unfortunately, this marriage didn’t last long and fell apart in 1990. Even though actor was unlucky marriage wise, he was successful filming wise. Goldblum won the Saturn Award “The Best Actor” for “The Fly”; was nominated “Award for Best Actor” by National Society of Film Critics for the same film (2nd place); and received the 3rd place in “Award for Best Actor” in New York Critics Circle.

Jeff was a part of two mega – blockbusters in 1990: “Jurassic Park” (1993) and “The Lost World”. The actor continued his strange habit of dating his female co-workers with Laura Dern. Actors were engaged for two years (1995-1997), but they broke up before the wedding. In 1996, Jeff grossed more than $800 million worldwide after playing in the sci-fi film “Independence Day” (1996). Shortly afterwards, he earned an Academy Award nomination for his project “Little Surprises”.

After the blockbusters, he decided to try out in other genres. “The Igby Goes Down” (2002), “Fay Grim” (2007), “The Stitch” (2010), “Morning Glory” (2010). In 2005 Jeff Goldblum was nominated for an Emmy for his role on NBC’s “Will and Grace”. In 2009 he joined the cast of the “Law and Order: Criminal Intent”.

In November 8, 2014 Goldblum married Olympic gymnast Emilie Livingstone. She gave a birth to their first child on July 4, 2015. The boy was called Charlie Ocean Goldblum.
