Early Life and Introduction to Acting
Ji Chang Wook is a South Korean actor, born on July 5, 1987, in Anyang, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. He began his acting career in 2006 with a minor role in the film Days. His television debut came two years later in the 2008 drama You Stole My Heart, although it was a smaller part. His official film debut is credited to the 2008 movie Sleeping Beauty, which helped him garner early recognition in the industry.

Breakthrough Role in Smile Again
Ji's breakthrough came in 2010 with the lead role in the long-running television drama Smile Again. In this 159-episode series, he portrayed a Korean-American speed skater, a character that required him to undergo extensive physical training. He spent about four to five hours daily practicing at an ice rink to prepare for the physically demanding scenes, showcasing his dedication to his craft.
Rise to Prominence with Warrior Baek Dong-soo
Following the success of Smile Again, Ji Chang Wook took on the titular role in the 2011 historical action drama Warrior Baek Dong-soo. The series is based on the life of Baek Dong-soo, a legendary swordsman during the Joseon Dynasty. The show was both a critical and commercial success and solidified Ji’s status as a rising star in Korean television.
Mandatory Military Service
In August 2017, Ji Chang Wook began his mandatory military service, a requirement for all able-bodied South Korean men. He joined the Republic of Korea Army and underwent basic training at the Army’s 3rd Infantry Division in Gangwon Province. Ji reportedly excelled during training and received a commendation for his performance. He was subsequently promoted to the rank of Corporal and completed his service with distinction, being discharged on April 27, 2019.
