Joey McIntyre

Joey Mulrey McIntyre Joseph Mulrey McIntyre is a singer-songwriter and actor from the United States. He is best known for being the youngest member of the groundbreaking boy band, New Kids on the Block, formed in 1989. As a solo artist, he has sold more than one million records in over 100 countries. He has worked in film, television, and the stage and has even performed on Broadway in the past.

Early Life

McIntyre grew up in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, and was born in Needham, Massachusetts, on December 31, 1972. His parents were union official Thomas McIntyre and community theater actress Katherine (née Bowen). After a long struggle with Alzheimer's, his mother died on November 30, 2014. On November 12, 2018, his father passed away. He is the youngest of nine children, with Judy, Alice, Susan, Tricia, Carol, Jean, Kate, and Tommy, his elder siblings. He grew up in a Catholic Irish-American home. McIntyre attended Catholic Memorial School, an all-male Catholic private school in West Roxbury, Massachusetts. Carol, his sister, was born on the same day as him. Judy, another of his sisters, is an actress.

In 1985, McIntyre joined New Kids on the Block to replace Jamie Kelly soon before his 13th birthday. He initially struggled to fit in with the other four band members because they were long-time school buddies. They were one of the most successful boy bands of the late twentieth century, with two number-one albums on the Billboard charts in the United States. The band was named the highest-earning entertainers by Forbes in 1991, knocking out Madonna and Michael Jackson. They broke up in 1994 but reformed in 2008 and have been active ever since.

Career

McIntyre busied himself with songwriting and pursued a recording contract as a solo artist following their breakup with the band. With The Fantasticks, a film based on the long-running off-Broadway musical of the same name, he made his feature film acting debut. This 1995 film, which starred Joel Grey and Jean Louisa Kelly, was released in theaters five years after its initial release in 1995.

Following his disappointment in his inability to secure a recording contract, McIntyre used his funds to record his first solo album, Stay the Same, sold through his website. He then chose the title track from the album as a single and distributed it to local Boston DJs, which resulted in the song receiving national radio airplay. In 1999, he signed a recording contract with Sony Music USA, under the C2 label, a subsidiary of Columbia Records, which had previously been home to the New Kids on the Block. As a result of his success with the single, he was named the New Kids on the Block All-Stars in 2000. This version of the album was re-released on Sony's Work Records label, and it went on to sell more than a million copies worldwide. The single "Stay The Same" reached No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. "I Love You Came Too Late" was the second single released from the album.

Also, in 1999, McIntyre recorded the song "Remember Me" for the film Southie, which starred his former bandmate Donnie Wahlberg and was released in theaters that year. Meet Joe Mac, McIntyre's second solo album, was released in 2001, but it did not chart at the time. The single "Rain" was the only track to be released from this album.

In 2004, McIntyre released his fourth solo album, 8:09, which was followed in December 2006 by Talk To Me, a collection of cover versions of other artists' songs.

The New Kids on the Block reunited in April 2008 for a reunion tour. The single "Summertime" was released in May 2008, and it is the first single from the band. The Block, their first full-length album in fourteen years, was released on September 2, 2008, and is the band's first studio album in fourteen years. They began their reunion tour on September 18, 2008, with a stop in New York City. In 2009, they embarked on a summer tour dubbed "Full Service." In 2011, they went on tour with the Backstreet Boys.

'Here We Go Again' is the first single and video from McIntyre's forthcoming EP of the same name, which was released on November 17, 2009.

Brent Paschke, Gabe Lopez, and Drew Ryan Scott were in charge of the production. Paschke, Lopez, and Scott are also contributing to the project as cowriters with McIntyre. In December 2009, the EP was made available for purchase on iTunes.

'Come Home for Christmas' was the title of McIntyre's Christmas album, which was released in November 2011. The album includes holiday classics such as "Winter Wonderland," "Do You Hear What I Hear?" and "The Christmas Song," as well as a collaboration with fellow New Kid Jordan Knight on the song "Peace on Earth."

On October 23, 2020, McIntyre will release the song "Own This Town," his first solo release since 2011's Come Home for Christmas, which will mark his return to the music industry. He had this to say about the song: "I wrote this song several years ago with a completely different purpose in mind. It's about taking a chance, swinging for the fences, and going for it, in my opinion. And I believe it has taken on a whole new significance now ".

MTV's Say What? Karaoke featured him as the host for a season in Las Vegas, Nevada, in 2001.

The actor and singer Joey Lawrence, pop star Drew Lachey, and TV stars Lisa Rinna and her husband Harry Hamlin were among the celebrities who joined McIntyre on the Dancing with the Stars – The Tour, which began in December 2006.

On April 15, 2013, McIntyre competed in the Boston Marathon, where he ran to raise awareness of Alzheimer's disease in memory of his mother, who passed away on November 30, 2014, after a long battle with the disease. Despite finishing in 3 hours and 57 minutes, a bomb exploded just minutes later, killing three people and injuring dozens more.

In the first episode of his podcast "The Move with Joey McIntyre," which premiered on October 24, 2017, McIntyre interviews guests about their most memorable moving experience and what was going on in their lives at the time.

On May 5, 2021, McIntyre and Debbie Gibson announced on an Instagram Live Stream that the highly anticipated collaborative single "Lost In Your Eyes.

Personal Life and Relationships

Barrett Williams and McIntyre were married on August 9, 2003, exactly one year after they first met. The couple welcomed Griffin Thomas, their first child, into the world on November 20, 2007, in Los Angeles. Rhys Edward, their second child, was born on December 13, 2009. Early on in his life, it was discovered that Rhys had a hearing impairment. Kira Katherine was born on May 31, 2011, making her the couple's third child.
