John Charles Hagee is a televangelist and preacher from the United States. His ministry is broadcast in the United States and Canada, and he is the founder of John Hagee Ministries. Hagee is also the founder and chairman of Christians United for Israel, a Christian-Zionist group. Hagee is a political figure who is well-known for his anti-Israel rhetoric. His statements against the Catholic Church, Jews, and Islam and his support of the blood moon prophecy have sparked debate.
John Hagee was born on April 12, 1940, in Texas, United States of America, to Rev. William Bythel Hagee and Vada Mildred Swick. In 1966, he obtained his Master's Degree in Educational Administration. He completed his theological training in Dallas.
He received two honorary doctorates in 1989 from Oral Roberts University in Oklahoma, where he later served on the Board of Regents until 2008, and in 2005 from Netanya Academic College in Israel. He is the only non-Jew to receive the Humanitarian Award of the Year from the San Antonio B'nai B'rith Council. He was awarded the Zionist Organization of America's Israel Award, an award given by the Jewish community of Dallas, Texas, by then U.N. Ambassador Jeane Kirkpatrick. He was honored with the ZOA Service Award by Texas Governor Mark White.
He is the founder and Senior Pastor of Cornerstone Church, a non-denominational church with many followers in San Antonio, Texas. He is also the Chief Executive Officer of his non-profit corporation, Global Evangelism Television (GETV).
He is the President and CEO of John Hagee Ministries, which telecasts his national radio and television ministry on 10 TV networks to more than 150 million households. Hagee is the founder and National Chairman of the Christian-Zionist organization Christians United for Israel, which was established on February 7, 2006.
John Hagee has caused a lot of controversy in his lifetime. His religious views and comments on other religions such as Catholicism, Islam, Judaism, and homosexuality were highly offensive and controversial.
He married Marthe in 1960, divorced her, and married Diana Castro on 12 April 1976. He has three children from Diana. John Hagee has authored more than 30 best-selling books, many of which have sold quickly and made entries into the list of best-sellers. He is also a Southern Gospel recording artist.
Many religious organizations consider that John Hagee has vested interests in the incorporation of GETV, as three out of the four directors from the Board of Directors are his direct family members: John Hagee, Diana Hagee, and his son Mathew.
In 2001, his organization filed revenues of $18.3 million with the IRS. He owns a ranch in Texas with a sprawling 8,000 acres. He also owns a 5,275 square foot mansion with six luxurious bedrooms in a posh area. The house is worth $700,000.
