Education

Armstrong attended Arnold School in Blackpool, United Kingdom, before enrolling at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London in 2000. At RADA, he studied acting, a craft that would later define his professional career.

Early Theatre Work

He began his acting career on stage, appearing as Derek Meadle in Quartermaine’s Terms at the Royal Theatre in Northampton. He also performed in other theatrical productions, including playing Henry in The Skin of Our Teeth and Richard in Rutherford and Son in 2005.

Breakthrough with Robin Hood

Armstrong rose to fame portraying the title character in the BBC television series Robin Hood from 2006 to 2009, where he starred opposite Lucy Griffiths. His performance in all thirty-nine episodes of the show became one of his most recognized roles. He exited the series after its third season to pursue new acting opportunities, a decision that contributed to the show's conclusion rather than a continuation into a fourth season.

Television and Film Roles

In addition to Robin Hood, Armstrong appeared in a variety of television and film projects. In 2008, he starred in the horror film Book of Blood. That same year, he featured in the third series of the BBC drama The Street, playing Nick Calshaw, a former soldier coping with life-altering injuries sustained in Afghanistan.
