He officially got associated with the media industry when he accepted a job working with publicist Peggy Siegal.

Later, he formed his own PR firm and left Siegal, left the PR firm and his partners and opeaned his own PR firm Command PR. He parted ways with Command PR in 2010 after his 2010 joined partner Simon Huch, a publicist,  bought most of the share of the company. He is said to be still associated with the firm as a consultant.

In media, Cheban is famous for appearing in various Kardashian related or produced shows. In 2010, he also starred in his own tv show which Kim produced. However, the tv reality show, which vision was to show how media-saturated world around people is shaped, got cancelled after one season due to it's poor rating.

The show may have failed, but he is still the educated and responsible friend of Kim who can even keep her grounded. Kim and Jonathan are really good friends and they have always stood for one and other during ups and downs in their life.
