Kandi Leniece Burruss-Tucker is a Grammy Award-winning songwriter, singer, television personality, record producer, entrepreneur, and actress. She first gained fame as a member of the multi-platinum R&B girl group Xscape. Currently, she stars in Bravo’s long-running reality series, The Real Housewives of Atlanta, having joined the cast in Season 2 in 2009.
Burruss was born in College Park, Georgia, to Reverend Titus Burruss Jr. and Joyce Jones. She had an older brother who passed away in a car accident at a young age. Kandi graduated from Tri-Cities High School in 1994 and began her music career at just 15 years old, shortly after forming the group Xscape.
In 2002, Burruss welcomed her first child, a daughter named Riley, with music executive Russell "Block" Spencer. In 2008, she began dating Ashley "A.J." Jewell, and the pair became engaged in early 2009. Tragically, Jewell died later that year due to head injuries sustained during an altercation.
In 2013, Kandi became engaged to Todd Tucker, a former line producer for The Real Housewives of Atlanta, whom she began dating in 2011. They married in 2014 and welcomed their son, Ace, in 2016. The couple currently resides in Atlanta with their blended family, which includes Kandi’s daughter Riley and Todd’s daughter Kaela.
Later, Burruss spoke openly about her struggles with infertility. She and Todd turned to in vitro fertilization (IVF) to expand their family. She shared that the process was emotionally and physically demanding, involving numerous medical procedures and injections. She eventually revealed that she met Todd during a trip to Africa, a moment she shared publicly through a series of photos on Instagram.
