Kevin Love was born in 1988 in Santa Monica, California. He is the second child of Stan and Karen Love. His father, Stan Love, is a former NBA player. Love played high school basketball for Lake Oswego High School in Oregon. His high school career was not without controversy; Nike removed him from the Portland Elite Legends AAU team after he participated in the ABCD Camp, which featured top recruits outside of the Nike sponsorship program.
After high school, Love played one season of college basketball at UCLA. He helped lead the Bruins to the Final Four in the 2008 NCAA Tournament. His performance earned him First-Team All-American honors and the title of Pac-12 Player of the Year.
