Kim Soo Hyun is a South Korean actor who was born on February 16, 1988, in Seoul, South Korea to a father of the same name and his mother who encouraged him to take acting classes in his early years. Hyun's mother thought that acting would help him get out of his introverted personality in high school. His father was the lead singer of the 1980's band "Seven Dolphins". Hyun attended Chung-Ang University's Film and Theater Department in 2009. Hyun's television debut was a supporting role in the 2007 family sitcom "Kimchi Cheese Smile". In 2008, he was cast in KBS's critically acclaimed teen drama "Jungle Fish". Around this time he also appeared as one of the hosts of the food-based variety show "Delicious Quiz". In 2011, Hyun was launched into fame by the success of the teen musical drama "Dream High". Hyun personally sang two of the songs for the show's soundtrack titled "Dreaming" as well as the title track "Dream High".
Hyun became even more famous when he starred as young King Leehwon in the hit series "Moon Embracing the Sun" which was a period drama. He soon appeared in his first feature film called "The Thieves" which is described as the Korean version of "Ocean's Eleven." Hyun enlisted as an active duty soldier for his mandatory military service on October 23, 2017. He completed basic training at a military camp in Paju, Gyeonggi Province. His military service is scheduled to be complete on July 22, 2019.
