Early Life and Education

Born on August 27, 1971, in Seoul, South Korea, Kyung I. Lah spent her formative years in Streamwood, Illinois, USA. Limited public information is available about her parents or whether she has any siblings. She attended Hoffman Estates High School in Illinois and graduated in 1989. Lah later enrolled at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism in 1993. Career Beginnings in Journalism

Kyung Lah began her professional career in journalism in 1993 as a desk assistant at WBBM-TV in Chicago, a CBS affiliate. She transitioned into a reporter role the following year. In 1995, she accepted a reporting position with KGTV in San Diego. After spending several years there, Lah returned to WBBM-TV in 2000, once again working as a reporter before relocating to Los Angeles in 2003.

Work at KNBC and Transition to CNN

In 2003, Lah began working as both a reporter and anchor at KNBC-TV in Los Angeles. She remained with the station for two years and received positive recognition for her reporting. However, in 2005, she departed from KNBC under circumstances involving a personal relationship with Jeff Soto, a field producer at the station. Both parties were married at the time, and the situation received media attention. Official reasons for her departure were not publicly disclosed by KNBC.
