After learning drama in New York and even acting in a few plays in the same city, she premiered on in a show named They Go On which was an internet-based show opera. She has even worked as a model and done photo-shoots at quite a few places such as Milan, Paris and Brazil. Her first known boyfriend was fellow actor Topher Grace who was predicted to be the next heartthrob on the silver screen, after being the main character of That 70’s show, but he failed to live up to his reputation while other Ashton Kucher, Mila Kunis and Laura Prepon outlasted Topher in their respective careers. Laura’s affair with Topher was just a year long and they broke up in 1999 citing unstated problems between the two.

She started dating actor Christopher Masterson, who was also the brother of her co-star Danny Masterson and that reported created rifts between the two for some time before things came back on track. Their relationship lasted smoothly for a while but rumors surfaced every now and then about Laura being seen with other stars and they separated in May 2007 ending a 8-year long relationship which was also her longest ever relation.

Her next suspected date was Anthony Kiedis but that was merely found later to have been an encounter and rumors about a suspected relationship and both getting hooked were brushed off. Marriage and divorce were still out of the picture for Laura Prepon when she started another relationship, this time with co-actor Scott Michael Foster after they met on the sets of Blush and started dating in October 2008 and seemed to get along fairly well and were supposed to become the next love-birds of the industry to get married. They were even seen together at various public events and made red carpet appearances together. Friends and family even suggested that they couldn’t be separated from each other, no matter what. Websites and gossip circles were rife with rumors of their separation in early 2013 before it was found to be true.

During November 2013, she was again supposed to have got a partner and the person she was hooked up with became a fair reason for getting her unwanted publicity. Tom Cruise, the Hollywood heartthrob was reported to be quite happy after going on a date with Laura Prepon. A British magazine even claimed that 51 year old Cruise was on cloud nine after their date and that there might be sparks flying. Those rumors were soon cleared off by Cruise himself when he personally made a public statement stating the meeting to be a one-off thing and that there was nothing going on between the two. Quite a supposed scandal!
