Background and Age

Laura Margaret Tingle was born in February of 1961. She grew up in Sydney, Australia as the youngest daughter of Pam Chivers and John Tingle. Her father, John had a long career in journalism with ABC and commercial radio. Her father and his cameraman, Don McAlpine caught what might become a notable film of Prime Minister Harold Holt jumping at a Portsea sea shore, for a Weekend Magazine feature story, months before Holt disappeared from that very spot suddenly and completely in 1967.

After his journalism career ended, he founded the Shooters Party in 1992. Growing up, there were bunches of family conversations about governmental issues and current undertakings. In 1995, he was elected to the New South Wales Legislative Council.

The Australian International Independent School was the site of Laura’s early education. Her father was very involved in politics and wanted to make sure that his daughter received a proper education.

During her youth, Tingle's folks hushed up about their political affiliations and supported an inquisitive psyche that would work well for Tingle in her future career, "I think at that particular point in history everyone tended to be a Labor voter or a Liberal voter from birth, but the thing that both my parents always impressed upon my older brother and sister and I was that you shouldn't just vote for a label, you should look at the politicians and make an assessment; are they smart, are they talking about sensible things you think would be good for the country?"

Marriage, Husband, and Kids

Laura married a fellow journalist, Alan Ramsey in 1995. They ended up having a daughter together named Tosca Ramsey. She was reported to be involved in a relationship with actor Sam Neill in 2018

Career and Career

Laura Tingle developed a noteworthy career more than 37 years in print, writing about financial matters and legislative issues for The Australian, The Age, The Sydney Morning and The Financial Review, where she was political supervisor from 2002 until 2018 when she joined the ABC's 7.30 program as a political reporter. Before working with ABC, Laura Tingle was the former political editor of The Australian Financial Review.

Tingle won two Walkley Awards and the Paul Lyneham Award for Press Gallery Journalism. She composed two books, wrote a few Quarterly Essays, and provided analysis on an assortment of TV and radio programs, including around 15 years of conversing with Phillip Adams every Monday night on Radio National's Late Night Live.
