Le'Veon Bell was born in 1992 in Reynoldsburg, Ohio. Raised primarily by his mother, Lisa A. Bell, he grew up in a financially challenged household alongside his two older sisters and two younger brothers, both of whom also pursued football careers. Bell attended Groveport Madison High School in Groveport, Ohio. There, he showcased his athletic abilities in football, basketball, and track.
Bell played as a running back for the Groveport Cruisers football team. As a sophomore, he rushed for over 789 yards and scored nine touchdowns. His junior year saw improvement, with over 1,100 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns. By his senior year, Bell rushed for 1,333 yards. That season, he earned All-Ohio Capital Conference Ohio Division honors.
Bell enrolled at Michigan State University and joined the Spartans football team from 2010 to 2012. In his freshman year, he rushed for 605 yards on 107 carries and scored eight touchdowns, earning All-Big Ten Freshman honors by Rivals.com and ESPN.com. During his junior season in 2012, Bell delivered several standout performances, including a 253-yard rushing game that earned him Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honors.
He finished the 2012 regular season with 1,793 rushing yards and was awarded the CFPA Elite Running Back Trophy. Bell was also named to the First-Team All-Big Ten by both media and conference coaches. Following that season, Bell declared for the 2013 NFL Draft.
Le'Veon Bell was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft. Known for his vision, patience, and agility, he quickly became one of the league’s premier running backs. Although his rookie season was productive, Bell truly broke out in later years, becoming a key offensive weapon for the Steelers.
In 2015, Bell's season was cut short due to a knee injury that required surgery, sidelining him for the remainder of that year. Despite setbacks, including suspensions and contract disputes in later seasons, Bell’s tenure with the Steelers cemented his reputation as one of the most versatile backs in the NFL.
In 2014, Bell was involved in a legal incident while riding in a car with fellow NFL player LeGarrette Blount and an unidentified woman. The vehicle was stopped by police after the detection of a marijuana odor. Officers found over 20 grams of marijuana in the car, and all three were taken into custody. Bell received 15 months’ probation, a 60-day driver’s license suspension, was required to complete DUI education classes, and paid $2,400 in court costs.
Outside of football, Le'Veon Bell has been involved in various charitable endeavors. He has participated in fundraising events and has supported animal rights through his work with PETA. Bell appeared in one of the organization’s campaigns with the tagline “I chose ink, not mink,” advocating against the use of animal fur in fashion.
