Lee began his acting career with a minor role in the sitcom Nonstop 5. His official debut came with the EBS youth drama Secret Campus. In 2006, Lee was involved in a major car accident, which required several months of recovery and temporarily halted his career progression. He returned to acting in 2007 in the teen drama Mackerel Run. Although the show was short-lived due to low ratings, it marked the beginning of his rise in the industry. That same year, he appeared in several other productions, including I Am Sam and Get Up.
