Méndez showed an early interest in acting at the age of eight. Her first foray into professional entertainment began in 1972, when she briefly worked for a popular newspaper. That same year, she appeared in the film Vuelven los campeones justicieros, although she was not credited for her role.

Breakthrough Roles in Television

Before her official film debut, Méndez appeared in the television series Muchacha Italiana Viene a Casarse in 1971, portraying the recurring character Raquel. Though early in her career, this role brought her considerable attention. Her breakout came in 1978 with the telenovela Viviana, in which she starred as Viviana Lozano. The show significantly elevated her profile in the Latin American entertainment industry.

In 1985, she secured another major role in the telenovela Tú o Nadie, playing the lead role of Raquel Samaniego. Her performance further cemented her status as one of Mexico’s leading telenovela actresses.
