Playing history
He had taken a liking for sports right from his childhood and played baseball, golf and basketball at First Colonial High School. He graduated from school in 2001. Mark began playing in 1994 for the Virginia Blasters Amateur baseball program. He was selected for the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2004. He made his debut in 2007 against Colorado Rockies. During his stint at Diamondbacks, he made great impact. In his first 15 MLB he games scored 14 runs. He also had significant credentials during the 2007 season- was 3rd among National League with 129 strikeouts and with 62 runs he was ranked 4th in runs and had a batting average of 0.279.
In 2008, while playing against St. Louis Cardinals he striked out for the 200th time in a season setting a record. However, his performance dipped during the season. He made 34 errors and had the lowest fielding percentage among all third batsmen in ML.
The year 2009 was a better year for Reynolds when he finished 3rd in the All-Star Game NL votes. He also was named NL Player of the Week in the week of Aug-9. He hit the longest run (481 feet), and later became famous for hitting the longest home-runs. He also improved on his fielding, which increase by 50 points from 2008 season. In 2010, he had 211 strikeouts and continues to hold the record for any player having 200 strikeouts in any season.
He was traded to Baltimore Orioles in December 2010 the Orioles wanted a power hitter and third baseman and the Diamondbacks wanted to rectify high strikeout totals in the team. Reynolds’ had a two year uneventful stint at the Oriole’s where his performance dipped markedly with a low fielding percentage. The Orioles didn’t renew his contract in 2013 and for the first time, he was without a team.
He then signed short contracts with Cleveland Indians and Milwaukee Brewers. The signing up with Milwaukee brewers elevated his career to be playing in the big league. After the one-year stint at the Milwaukee Brewers, he signed up a 1-year contract of $2 million with St. Louis Cardinals in 2014. His pinch-hitting have led the Cardinals to a number of wins.
Very recently, in Dec 2015, he signed up for Colorado Rockers for $2.6 million contract and $1.1 million in bonus.
Personal life
He is married to Kathleen Reynolds, who is a homemaker and a doting mother of two boys Mark (28) and Reid (5). As Mark’s wife, she attends most of Mark’s games and frequents charity events. The Reynolds’ have a bull mastiff and they call him Brodie. Brodie is pretty heavy at 150 pounds.
Interviews
Mark is pretty good with words when giving interview. He has cited several interesting quotations. Once, when asked about his high strikeout rates, he had said, “I am playing to the situation of the game.”
Mark Reynolds is a fantastic baseball player, known as slugger with long balls and a record strikeout rate. Very talented and adjusting his game to the situation.
