Matthew McConaughey is an American actor, born on November 4, 1969, in Uvalde, Texas. His father worked in the oil business, and his mother was a kindergarten teacher. Remarkably, his parents married and divorced each other three times throughout their relationship. McConaughey has a diverse heritage that includes German, Irish, Scottish, Swedish, and English ancestry. He is married and has three children.
In 1980, McConaughey’s family moved to Longview, Texas, where he attended Longview High School. He later spent a year in Australia as a Rotary Youth Exchange student, broadening his global perspective during his formative years.
Initially, McConaughey intended to study at Southern Methodist University but was deterred by financial concerns. Ultimately, he chose to attend the University of Texas at Austin, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Radio-Television-Film from the Moody College of Communication. In 2005, while promoting the action-adventure film Sahara, McConaughey famously traveled down the Amazon River and continued on foot into Mali. That same year, he was named People magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive.”
