Education

When the family moved to Longview in 1980, Matthew McConaughey attended Longview High School. He later moved to Australia where he studied as Rotary Exchange Student. For his degree, he attended the University of Texas where he studied for a degree in Radio-Television-Film at Austin College of Communication.

Initially, he planned to have a degree from Southern Methodist University. He was discouraged from proceeding with it because of the financial situation of the family. He also pushed aside his desire to attend a law school as he later realized that he was not cut out for a profession in law.

Career

He started out as an unknown actor in Dazed and Confused. He was later cast in series of small roles in some movies. Finally, he had a break in 1996 when he was cast as the lawyer Jake Brigance, in a move titled A Time to Kill. That was in 1996. He later got lead roles in other movies like Contact, the Newton Boys, and Amistad as a result of his performance in A Time to Kill.

To promote another movie, Sahara in 2005, he sailed down to the Amazon River. From there, he trekked to Mali. He was named as the Sexiest Man Alive in 2005 by People Magazine.

One of the most successful movies that he played a role in is Dallas Buyers Club. The film got so many nominations as a result of its success. The actor himself got three different awards while his co-actor got an award too.

In 2016, he has been penned down for some movies such as The Free State of Jones and Gold. He will also lend his voice to Sing and Kubo and the Two Strings which are animated films.

He reportedly has a net worth of $95 million.

Personal life

In 2006, he met a beautiful Brazilian model, Camila Alves. Five years later, they got engaged on the Christmas day in 2011. They got married on June 9, 2012, after six years of dating. Their marriage has produced three children: Levi Alves McConaughey, Livingston Alves McConaughey, and Vida Alves McConaughey.

Whenever he is not on location, he can be seen with his pet project which he set up to help teenage children live normally so that he or she can have a great future. At times, he engages in humanitarian services. For instance, after Hurricane Katrina, he rescued a lot of stranded pets to prevent them from dying. He did the same in 2006 when he stopped two young guys from setting a cat on fire after they have soaked it in hairspray.

The actor lives happily with his family in Austin, Texas. The couple has always been seen to be happy which rules out any possibility of divorce.
