But Mike Bettes is different as he chased several deadly tornadoes and gave live updates about floods from the affected areas. This Emmy award winning meteorologist is currently working in The Weather Channel and occasionally seen in NBC news as a special weather reporter.

Personal Life

He was born in 1972 and his native place is Tallmadge, Ohio. He doesn’t reveal much about his family as he wants to protect privacy of his family members. He graduated from Ohio State University and started working as a weather reporter after that. He married Allison Chinchar who is also a meteorologist. He is currently living in Sandy Springs, Atlanta along with his wife. Allison Chinchar is currently working at WXIA-TV as a meteorologist and their relationship is on good terms.

Career

He never faced problems in his career and while studying at Ohio University only, he started working for WSYX/WTTE and his job as a weekend meteorologist ended there in 1998. He worked as a chief meteorologist at WLOS for five years and joined the popular The Weather Channel in 2003. He worked in several positions and he got the tag of reliable weather reporter while working here only. In 2007, he started working at NBC news as a special weather reporter without leaving his job at The Weather Channel.

From 2003 onwards, he is working as a field reporter in The Weather Channel and he co-hosted several dedicated weather reporting TV shows. Your Weather Today, Morning Rush, Weather Center Live are some of the popular weather reporting shows he co-hosted. He is occasionally seen on The Today Show telecasted in the NBC news. Though he is popular as a Tornado chaser, he also gave live coverage of several adverse climatic situations like floods, cyclones, storms etc.

Risks taken and Achievements

He is a brave hearted person and will do anything to stay ahead of competitors. While chasing the deadly EF3 tornado in Oklahoma, he was badly injured. The SUV he was travelling was thrown into a field and god’s blessings are with them. Even after this incident also, his behavior didn’t change and still continuing his adventurous job. He live covered Katrina and Sandy hurricanes and because of his dedication only, he won prestigious Emmy award. He never revealed about his salary, income sources and other property details but according the estimates of several reputed magazines, his net worth stands close to five million dollars.
