Mike started his career as a cricketer at an early age and he started playing for South Africa very soon. Unfortunately he could not play more than 7 matches because of a ban on the South African cricket team. This was an end of his Test Career with South Africa. In the matches that he played, he took 41 wickets and average economy rate for Mike had been around 15.

Mike also played for domestic teams in South Africa and he is known to be the only cricketer who was able to score over 500 runs along with cracking 50 wickets. Mike has also engraved his name in the record books because of his excellent game that excites his audience. It was reported that Mike also played with Gloucestershire and Mike was known for his bowling. He cracked hundreds of wickets while playing with the team and he not only excelled with the bowling but he also excelled in the batting.

Mike scored a lot of centuries and proved his worth in the field. He has also captained the team and won several awards during his tenure. Some of the wards he won are, Cricket Society Wetherall Award and Professional Cricketers Association award. He won the award in the category of Best All Rounder Player and Player of the year respectively. Mike also led his team to win the Benson and Hedge Cup as well as Fillet Cup.

During the later phase of his life, it was reported that Mike suffered from a painful knee and that led him to change his bowling style. Mike used to play in the middle order and it was often said that Mike could fit in any team as per the requirement of the team. In later stage of his career, he took retirement from playing and decided to work as a Match Referee. Mike’s decision had often attracted a lot of controversies. One such decision was when he imposed a match fee fine on Pakistan for tampering with the bowl. After the decision, the cricketers refused to play the game. He also got a lot of criticism when he accused Indian Bowler, Harbhajan Singh of using racist word. The case was later dropped.

In 1962, Mike decided to marry Maryna Godwin. Mike’s wife is a famous tennis player and she is the winner of several tittles. The couple got married in South Africa only and there is no information about their children. Mike’s salary and net worth are not public but going by his success, he surely has a high net worth.
