Miles Heizer was born in 1994 in Greenville, Kentucky. His mother worked as a nurse, and he has an older sister. At the age of ten, Heizer and his family relocated to Los Angeles, where he began pursuing acting.
Heizer made his professional acting debut in an episode of CSI: Miami titled "Nothing to Lose," where he portrayed Joey Everton. He also appeared in the short film Paramedic as Young James. His early guest roles included appearances on series such as Private Practice, Bones, Shark, and Ghost Whisperer, showcasing his growing presence in television.
In 2007, at the age of 12, Miles Heizer gained critical attention for his performance as Davey Danner in the drama film Rails & Ties, directed by Alison Eastwood. His portrayal of a grieving and troubled boy whose mother dies by suicide earned him a nomination for a Young Artist Award for Best Leading Young Actor in a Feature Film. He starred opposite Kevin Bacon and Marcia Gay Harden in the emotionally intense role.
Also in 2007, Heizer was cast in the recurring role of Joshua Lipnicki on the long-running NBC medical drama ER, appearing in four episodes. His most prominent television role came in 2010 when he was cast as Drew Holt in NBC's family drama Parenthood. Playing the sensitive and introspective son of Sarah Braverman (portrayed by Lauren Graham), Heizer remained a principal cast member for all six seasons of the show, until its conclusion in 2015.
