Early Life and Background

Myla Dalbesio was born in 1987 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. She developed an early interest in the arts and beauty pageants, which laid the foundation for her multifaceted career in modeling and creative expression.

Pageantry and Modeling Career

Dalbesio gained her first notable platform in 2004 when she was crowned Miss Wisconsin Teen USA at age 16. Her participation in the pageant circuit brought her to the attention of modeling professionals Jeff and Mary Clarke, who initially tried to position her in traditional "straight-size" modeling.

After being turned down by several mainstream modeling agencies at a scouting event in St. Louis, Missouri, Dalbesio continued to pursue opportunities in the industry. At age 18, she auditioned for Ford Models, where she was signed as a plus-size model—a label that, at the time, applied to women who did not fit the industry's narrowly defined size standards.

Breakthrough with Calvin Klein and Fashion Work

In 2014, Dalbesio was selected for Calvin Klein’s “Perfectly Fit” campaign—a move that garnered significant media attention and public dialogue due to her being cast in a campaign that was traditionally reserved for smaller-sized models. The campaign sparked discussions about body diversity in fashion.

Dalbesio's modeling career has since expanded to include editorials and campaigns for leading fashion publications. Her print work has appeared in prominent magazines such as LOVE, Purple, Vogue India, Dazed & Confused, Lui, Bon, Oyster, Twin, Viva Moda, Elle France, and Elle Italia. Through these platforms, she has contributed to growing representation and inclusivity within the modeling industry.

Writing and Feminist Advocacy

In addition to modeling, Dalbesio has cultivated a career as a writer. She has written essays for publications like Suited, Twin Magazine, and Oyster, offering personal insights and commentary on topics related to art, fashion, and identity. She also contributed a recurring column to Elle.com titled “Girl on Girl,” which explored the dynamics of female relationships and empowerment.

A self-identified feminist, Dalbesio uses her public presence and media influence to advocate for women's rights and representation. She frequently speaks about body image, industry standards, and the importance of diverse expressions of beauty in media.
