Nasser Hussain

Nasser began his cricket career in the late 1980’s. He was an outstanding stylish fielder, but he was not consistent with this batting. He would sometimes have big batting games but they were usually mixed in with some bad performances. Nasser is considered to be one of the best English Test Cricket Captains of the modern era. During his captainship, he was able to transform the culture of an underperforming team to a team that can achieve new heights of success. Adding words of praise for Hussain, Simon Barnes of the Times wrote that ”Husain is one the most significant player to have played for England since the war and perhaps the finest captain to hold the office.”

After moving to England, Hussain's cricket talent started to appear at the young age of eight. The young and promising player got selected to show his skills with the bat and ball in the Essex Under 11s. At the age of 12, Hussain became the youngest player to play for the Essex under 15s. When the bar was raised for Nasser, he worked hard to reach those new heights. Nasser knew that he was a child prodigy and accepted the challenge of being a great young player. Nasser did not let the pressure get to him because he did not want to let his father and brother down. He wanted to continue the family legacy of being excellent cricket players.

Nasser was the captain of the England cricket team for 45 test matches that occurred from 1999 to 2003. He was also able to get the fourth most victories as the captain of the England team. He has played 88 One Day International matches for England. Nasser decided to take retirement from the Test and first-class cricket at the age of 36. He said that retiring from cricket has been a tough process from him. It was hard to walk away from the sport because he loved playing it so much. He doesn’t have much hobbies outside of cricket and feels lost without it. The sport dictated his daily routine and created the special bond he had with fans of the teams he competed on.

After his retirement, Nasser started up a career as a television commentator for Sky Sports. He even worked at New Hall School as their cricket presenter. He also acted in the movie name Patiala House. He played himself in the movie which was loved and praised by his fans. Nasser seems to have found peace with his retirement. His new job as a sports analyst allows him to stay close to the sport. He enjoys breaking down games to point out what went wrong and what players can do to improve their performances for the next game. He uses his experience as a former player to give advice on how to play the right way. The television audience believe in his commentary because of his credibility as a player.
