Neal Schon

Neal George Joseph Schon is an American rock guitarist, vocalist and songwriter. He was born on February 27, 1954, in Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma City, USA and is the son of the accomplished musician Mathew Schon and Barbara Schon, a band singer. Neal started playing the guitar at the young age of 5.

Schon was a member in many music groups. He joined Santana at the age of 15 and made his debut on the 1971 Santana III LP. When Santana split four years later, Schon along with Gregg Rolie formed the band Journey in 1973. He was the only permanent member of the band. The other music groups in which he was are Bad English, a band he helped to form in 1988, Hardline, Hagar, Schon, Aaronson, Shrieve, Soul, Sirk US and Hear ‘n Aid. He is best known for his memorable performances in the music groups Journey and Bad English.

Schon has done several albums and tours. Some of his popular albums are Here to Stay (1982), Beyond the Thunder (1995), Electric World (1997) and Piranha Blues (1998). The band Journey released their debut album Journey in 1975. It was followed by Look Into the Future (1976) and Next (1977), infinity (1978), Evolution (1979) and Departure (1980). Several other albums were subsequently released. The guitar legend released his seventh solo album The Calling in 2012. Schon’s latest album So U was released in May 2014. The co-writers of the tracks are Castronovo, Mendoza and Schon. Additional co-writing contributions were from Jack Blades.

Schon’s creations are some of the most popular music today. His career started more than 35 years ago when he left his studies and home to join Santana.  This guitar wizard has made 40 singles and 25 platinum and gold albums. In August 2013, Schon was inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame He received the prestigious Legend of Life Award at the 2011 Billboard Touring Awards. The band Journey was awarded a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (2005).

Schon, the much married man is known as the cheating spouse. In his romantic pursuits he married six times. His first marriage was Tena Austin, a professional make-up artist, whom he married in 1976 and divorced. The lovely blonde Beth Buckley, was his second wife. They were married in 1987 and had two children. The couple eventually divorced. He went on to marry Dina Gioeli in 1993 and they had a child together. This marriage also ended in a divorce. His fourth marriage was to Amber Kozan. He married her 2001 and they divorced in 2008. The couple had two children. Schon left her for Michaele Salahi, an ex-girlfriend of his. His next wife was a former Playboy Playmate Ava Fabian whom he married in 2011. Fabian came to know of his extramarital affair with Salahi early in their marriage, in fact within two months. She was humiliated and devastated and their marriage soon ended. In 2013 he married Michaele Salahi, the Real Housewives of DC star, whom he dated in the 1990s. Subsequently he had an affair with her though she was still married to Tariq.

Schon has five children, Miles with Dina Gioeli, Aja and Sophia with Amber Kozan, and Sarah and Elizabeth with Beth Buckley.
