An American national of white ethnicity, Sullivan showed a passion for the performing arts from an early age. In high school, Sullivan was a multi-talented student. She excelled academically, served as class treasurer during her junior year, and proved athletic prowess by playing girls' soccer and even competing with boys in basketball. Recognizing her love for audience interaction and performance, she pursued theatre as a career.

Sullivan attended Northwestern University, where she majored in theatre. Despite coming from a financially stable household—her father was an assemblyman and her mother a businesswoman—she worked two jobs to support herself. During her university years, she wrote several sketches and plays for student theatre and joined the prestigious Greenwich Shakespeare Company. Her academic focus included studying the works of notable writers such as William Shakespeare, Harold Pinter, Anton Chekhov, Henrik Ibsen, and ancient Greek tragedians like Aeschylus.

Career Breakthrough and Mad TV Success

After graduating with honors from Northwestern, Sullivan moved to Los Angeles to begin her acting career. Following a few small television roles, she was recruited by the talent scouts of Mad TV. She became one of the show’s original cast members when it launched in 1995, remaining with the sketch comedy series until 2001.

During her tenure on Mad TV, Sullivan became well-known for creating and portraying memorable characters such as the brash Vancome Lady, the naive Antonia, and hyperactive news reporter Amy. Her sharp impersonations of various celebrities also contributed to her popularity as a comedian.

Film and Television Roles

In addition to her work on Mad TV, Sullivan established herself as a versatile actress. Her film credits include voice work in Buzz Lightyear of Star Command: The Adventure Begins, as well as roles in Guess Who, Superhero Movie, and 17 Again.

On television, Sullivan is known for her recurring roles in popular shows such as Family Guy (voice roles), The Penguins of Madagascar (voice of Marlene), and Black-ish (as Janine). She also appeared on The King of Queens, Clone High, Kim Possible, Hot Properties, Cougar Town, and had a starring role in Rita Rocks.
