Breakthrough Role in "Dallas"

Patrick Duffy is best known for his iconic role as Bobby Ewing on the CBS primetime soap opera Dallas, which originally aired from 1978 to 1991. Though there was a hiatus between 1985 and 1986 due to his temporary departure from the show, he later returned by popular demand. His portrayal of Bobby Ewing earned him widespread recognition and helped solidify his status as a household name. He also reprised this role in the spin-off series Knots Landing (1979), the 2012 revival of Dallas, and an episode of Family Guy (1999), making him one of the few characters to appear in multiple series within a franchise.

Duffy once reflected in an interview that he was not entirely satisfied with how the final episode of the original Dallas series was produced, feeling it diverged from the show's original structure and theme.

Other Notable Television Work

In addition to his success on Dallas, Duffy starred in the science-fiction series The Man from Atlantis and the family sitcom Step by Step. These roles further enhanced his reputation for portraying likable, heroic characters. His acting style is often noted for its sincerity, resonant voice, and athletic physique, with his curly hair adding to his distinct on-screen presence.

Personal Life

Patrick Duffy married ballet dancer Carlyn Rosser on February 15, 1974. The couple met while riding a tour bus, and despite a ten-year age difference, they shared a long and devoted marriage until Rosser's passing in 2017. They have two sons: Padraic Terence Duffy, born in 1974, and Conor Duffy, born on January 16, 1980. In a special moment in his career, Duffy shared the screen with one of his sons in the final episode of Dallas.

Duffy resides in Eagle Point, Oregon, and is an avid golfer. He has a passion for playing the piano and maintains a healthy lifestyle. He is open about his Buddhist beliefs and wears a medical alert bracelet on his right wrist to signal a severe penicillin allergy. “Duffy” is an Irish surname meaning "black," possibly alluding to his dark hair in his younger years.
